In June of 2009, the fall 2008 AHB title Laundry by Suzane Adam was selected as a ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year. Congratulations to author Suzane Adam and translator Becka Mara McKay!
In December of 2009 we published two new books, I Never Dared Hope for You and A Little Party Dress, both by Christian Bobin, in the translations of Alison Anderson. Both bear the subititle "lyric essays." What that means you'll have to experience for yourselves.
Also in fall 2009, AHB teamed up with the University of Iowa's International Writing Program and the National Arts Council of Singapore to publish Tumasik: Contemporary Writing From Singapore, in a collection edited by Alvin Pang. This work went on sale in a limited run in Singapore in October and was on display at the American Association of Literary Translators annual meeting in Pasadena in November. In 2010, with the help of the Japanese Literature Project, we look forward to publishing our first title translated from the Japanese -- Sangetsuki, a collection of stories by Atsushi Nakajima, in translations by Paul McCarthy and Nobuko Ochner. Nakajima's works are widely known in Japan despite his early death and the relatively small number of stories he published in his lifetime.
